A large tumulus formerly stood about 60 yds W of the Cat Stane (NT17SW 1). It was opened in 1824 and found to contain several complete skeletons. Since then it has been gradually levelled by cultivation, and only very slight traces remain (D Wilson 1863).

Hutchison carefully examined the area, and dug over a considerable part of the ground around the supposed site without finding anything to enable the site of the tumulus to be located precisely.

R Hutchison 1868.

Area: NT 1484 7437. No traces of a tumulus exist in the area indicated.

Visited by OS (JLD), 1 December 1953.
