NT12NW 18 centred 1162 2699.

(Centred NT 116 269) The banks and ditches in the policies of Polmood House are probably not linear earthworks in the sense of ancient monuments, but there are some cultivation terraces behind the policies and adjoining farmlands at the base of the slopes of Great Hill.

RCAHMS MSS., visited 1948

NT 1162 2699: Only one possible cultivation terrace was noted at the base of the NW slopes of Great Hill. At 1160 2696 a short scarp runs NE from the stone field dyke for a distance of c. 25m. The scarp is 0.7m high and spread to a width of 3.0m but shows no trace of revetting. To the S of this scarp is a level expanse c. 20m wide.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 24 July 1963

As described. A poor example of a cultivation terrace.

Visited by OS (DWR) 19 September 1972.
