NT14NE 13 1613 4666.

Two carved stones are incorporated in the W gable of Newlands manse coach-house (at NT 1613 4666). The first, a fragment of yellow sandstone 2'6" x 1'2" is carved in relief with a six-armed floriated cross-head. The shaft of the cross is represented by two incised lines, on one side of which part of a marginal inscription is carved in relief in Lombardic capitals: CRISTIN (?I). On the other side of the shaft, and near the lower fracture of the stone, is what appears to be part of a symbol, also in relief, possibly a pair of shears. This stone is evidently a fragment of a recumbent tombstone, of late 13th or 14th c date.

The second stone, originally part of a lintel, is a fragment of red sandstone 2'5" x 9". It incorporates two recessed panels, one dated 1600 and the other with the initials T M.
