NC27SE 10 281 707.

NC 281 707. Oval hut, 5m by 4m.

T C Welsh 1972l.

Not located in featureless moorland. Similar structures described by Welsh as huts have usually been shielings or bothies.

Visited by OS (NKB) 28 April 1980.

The grid reference was not confirmed. The only possible site Welsh could be referring to is a spot with similar measurements of raised earth in the form of an oval (figure 9). There is a small crescent shaped pond of about 3m long and 1.5m wide on its S side. However, there are no visible structural remains to suggest the presence of a building here.

Lieu 2000, 5.

NC 28100 70702. The mound was once again located during this year's survey. I believe the structure may not be a shieling but is in fact a clearance cairn. A similar mound was located further to the West of CWHI 11. The site has been enveloped by peat and as such bares no evidence of any stonework. There is no evidence to suggest it was a shieling.

Street 2001, 12.
