(NS 9637 9809) Church (NAT) (In ruins)

OS 6"map, (1948)

The walls of the church, built in 1775, are still extant. The present church (at NS 9642 9841) was built in 1841, enlarged 1921.

New Statistical Account (NSA, written by A Mylne) 1845; G Hay 1957.

The Old Church is roofless, and has no architectural features to date it earlier than the 18th century. A stone over a window with the date "1775" probably denotes its date of construction. In the churchyard were seen three stones bearing 17th century dates which suggests that a church was in existence here during the 17th century. It was not ascertained if the old church is on the site of a previous one. Mr Hughes (Rev A Hughes, St Columba's Church Manse, Dollar) could give no further information except that the Church Treasurer's records date from 1669, and nothing further was encountered during investigation.

Visited by OS (J D) 16 September 1953.
