Newall and Lonie note a number of turf-walled 'round houses' between 11.0m and 13.5m in diameter over walls, on average, 3.0m thick.

Turf-covered sheepfolds of fairly recent origin, but probably pre-dating the circular stone built folds of 18th and 19th century date.
