(NS 3442 3364) Chapel (NR) (site of)
OS 6" map (1967)
Tradition says that a chapel once existed at Chapel Hill close by the mansion of Hillhouse. The ground, which is now covered with wood, has still some traces of such an erection. In the garden wall, which was built nearly a century ago, the Font Stone is still pointed out.

No trace of this chapel is to be found. The site is covered by wood and dense vegetation. The font in question stands on an old millstone, in the centre of the gardens at NS 3444 3375. No dating evidence was encountered for this chapel.

Chapel Hill is as described, nothing significant has been found in recent years. The alleged font stone is in fact a shaft-bearing, almost certainly associated with the millstone, on top of which it is displayed as a garden feature.
