(NS 3736 6127) Clochodrick Stone (NAT)

OS 6" map (1969)

Clochodrick Stone (NR)

OS 6" map (1915)

"Clochodrick Stone" is of whinstone and measures about 22ft by 17ft and 12ft high. Several fragments of it have broken off and it seems to rest on a narrow base. The OSA states that the name is supposedly a corruption of "Cloch o' Druid" - ie the Druid's Stone. It is mentioned in an early 13th century charter as a mark on the boundary of the lands of Moniabrock and it is suggested (OPS 1851) that the name derives from that of one of the earliest settlers here.

OSA 1791

This stone, at the edge of an arable field, is as described above. It appears to be a natural boulder from which the surrounding earth has been denuded.
