NS43SW 6 4280 3254.

NS 4280 3254. On the summit of the hill above Craigie is a large ruined enclosure marked by the remains of drystone wall along the contour of the hill top. There is a scarped terrace on its NW perimeter and a possible entrance, 4.0m wide, on the S. The interior is broken and rocky.

The enclosure is similar to others on Wardlaw Hill (NS33SE 5 and NS33SE 6 : now recognised as possible forts).

Visited by OS (JLD) 3 June 1954

A defended settlement or fort occupying the entire summit area of this prominent hill at about 152m OD. It measures internally a maximum of 74m E-W by 66m transversely, with a single stony scarp, up to 1.5m high, bounding the summit around the N, W and E, and the remains of a rampart, up to 5.0m wide and 0.7m high, around the S side, where the simple entrance is centrally placed on the line of easiest approach. The undulating interior is featureless.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (JRL) 21 June 1982
