OS 1:10000 map (1980)

Site of (NAT) Lorabank Castle (NR)

OS 6" map (1915)

The foundations of Lorabank Castle were dug up by Robert Orr, the late proprietor of Lorabank (NSA 1845). His son indicated that they were dug out of a slight eminence in a plantation a little S of the farmhouse. Close to this, but in the field to the S, are two small grassy mounds evidently formed of debris as large hewn stones protrude from their surfaces.

Name Book 1856

At this point is a natural hill, the summit of which appears to have been scarped to form a motte-like mound. The top is uneven, but no masonry or other evidence of a building was seen.
