OS 6" map (1957)

This cist - Auchantirie No 1 - was opened by the farmer many years ago, but its contents were not removed. The cover stone is an irregular slab 4ft 3ins x 4ft 2ins x 7 1/2ins. The cist itself measures 2 ft 10ins x 1ft 9ins x 1ft 6ins deep. It contained a skull, bones and fragments of an urn. There is no trace of any cairn. (See also NS06SE 22).

T H Bryce 1904

Situated near the crest of a gentle ridge in cultivated land is the cover stone of a cist - Auchantirie No 1. It is earthfast and measures 1.3m by 1.2m; the cist itself is not visible.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (TRG) 2 November 1976

This cist, which was discovered in the 19th century and excavated by Bryce at the beginning of the 20th century, is situated in a field of improved pasture 200m NE of Auchintirrie farmsteading (NS06SE 441). The present farmer has covered the cist with a mound of earth to protect it, but the SW edge of the capstone has since been exposed by erosion.

Visited by RCAHMS (GFG, PJD) 6 July 2009.
