(NS 3386 2194) Lych Gate (NAT)

OS 25" map (1961)

This massive gateway to the churchyard is one of a few surviving examples of its period, shortly after the Reformation. Known in records as "the Porche" it is dated 1656. There are outer and inner archways of deep segmental form. The roof and much of the upper walling are modern, but the side walls are original with stone benches, above which fragments of early 19th century mort-safes are now suspended.

G Hay 1957

The lych gate which is as described is very well preserved.
