(NR 6565 1158) Dunan Breac (NR) (Fort) (NR)

OS 6" map, (1924)

This dun is situated on the top of a low knoll beside a small unnamed stream. It would seem that the dun measured about 12m by 7.5m internally, but the wall is now reduced to an intermittent bank of stony debris in which a number of outer facing-stones can be seen. On the NW the wall has been set back from the margin of the summit area of the knoll, and the entrance was probably situated at some point in the wide gap in this side. On a level shelf below the dun on the W there are some slight remains of a wall, but it is uncertain whether or not this is contemporary with the dun.

RCAHMS 1971, visited 1960.

Dunan Breac is generally as described by RCAHMS. The remains of the wall on the lower shelf to the west probably formed part of a contemporary out work. (See also NR61NE 23).

Surveyed at 1:10 000.

Visited by OS (J B) 13 October 1977.
