(NO 4368 9672) Hall on site of Dee Castle (NR)

A two-storey Roman Catholic chapel built in 1797 incorporated a small portion of Dee Castle in the NW angle. (Ordnance Survey Name Book [ONB] 1868) According to Simpson, Dee Castle was the ancient residence of the Gordons, built c 1602, and burnt in 1641, and allowed to fall into ruins. McConnochie states that it was erected in the mid 15th century and was previously known as Candecaill The chapel was disused by 1898.

This chapel has recently been harled and converted into a private dwelling, and no external trace of the earlier castle can be seen, but the W wall approx. 5ft thick is probably part of the castle.
