(NO 5279 4985) Girdle Stane (NR)

OS 6" map, (1971)

A rough boulder, called the "Girdle Stane of Dunnichen" is situated at the junction of two roads, a little NE of Letham, marking the boundaries between Dunnichen and Rescobie parishes, also between the lands of Dunnichen and Ochterlony (Balmadies). It is about 5' x 3', having on its face a circle about 30" in diameter and a smaller circle about 6" across. It is probably the Grey Stone referred to in a note on the marches of Dunnichen, about 1280.

A J Warden 1880-5.

This boundary stone is as described above. It is situated on the parish boundary at the corner of road junctions, and is flush with the ground, raised slightly (0.1m) on the E side. The smaller circle is in the form of a cup and ring mark.

correct.
