Carneby - listed as a church in the Presbytery of St Andrews (Martine MS.). Carnbee - listed as a parish with name of incumbent and patron. "...the church here belonged to the abbacy of Dunfermline.

The church of Carnbee is very old and of Gothic construction. It has been extensively repaired during the last 40 years and "it would be better to build a new church than to repair the old fabric".
Statistical Account (OSA) 1794
The church was built in 1793.
New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845 (A Taylor)
The church of Carnbee was under the charge of the Abbey of Dunfermline in pre-Reformation times and was rebuilt in 1793.

Carnbee Church - "A small stone building...built about the year 1793 on the site of what was formerly a Roman Catholic place of worship.
Name Book 1853
There is no trace of the pre-reformation church. The present church is in normal use.

Following on from work carried out previously (DES 1999, 45), surveys were made of several churchyards in Fife.
