NO35NE 15 3616 5681.

NO 3616 5681 The possible remains of a cairn underlie the the old trig station on Castle Hill. It consists of a stony mound about 7m in diameter and 1.5m high.

Name Book 1863; Information from OS (JLD) 25 September 1958.

An amorphous mound, with an average height of 0.8m, consists of small stones build up against an outcropping rock. It has been mutilated by tree stump removal (this area was formerly heavily wooded). There was a buried trig at this point (OS 25" County Series) but it is not clear to what extent its construction and subsequent removal has disturbed the mound. It is not therefore possible to identify this feature as a burial mound.

Visited by OS (BS) 12 January 1977.
