OS 6" map (1920)

Aitherny, about 1710, was a fine house but, by 1803, it was in ruins.

It was mentioned in an inheritance of David I's time.

R Sibbald 1803

Aithernie Castle existed in the first half of the 17th century, and is now reduced to a fragment of a building.

RCAHMS 1933

All that remains of Aithernie Castle is one corner of a building some 6.0m high and a length of wall 0.5m high and 9.0m long. The remainder has been entirely removed except for fragments of rubble scattered in the ploughed soil around the remains.

Visited by OS (RDL) 18 October 1962
