In the last week of March 1878, an urn burial was found at a depth of about 2' in the Moor of Blairgowrie, c. 1 1/2 miles from the church, in a detached field of the glebe, and not far from the River Ericht.

The discovery comprised a cinerary urn (c. 12" in diameter by 12" deep) containing bones, and a small "incense cup" (1 3/4" high) lying in gravelly soil on a large stone hollowed out by the action of water. Over the urn, slantwise, was a large flattish stone. The "incense cup" was donated to the N M A S (Acc No: EC 5) but the fragments of the cinerary urn were dispersed, only one fragment being in the N M A S (EC 6).
