NN95SW 10 9078 5417

(NN 9078 5417) (Information from F T Wainwright to OS, undated.) The remains of a circular fort, known as the "Black Castle of Tullypowrie" are situated on the farm of Middleton of Tullypowrie, at the foot of a cultivated field. The site was found to be excessively overgrown which prohibited measurement, but it was considered to be larger than the similar fort at Pitcastle (NN95SW 9).

W J Watson 1913.

The remains of a homestead (c/f NN44SE 7), situated on a gentle SE-facing slope. The wall has been pillaged and field clearance piled around it, but sufficient blocks of the outer face can be seen to give overall measurements of 18.5m NW-SE x 18.0m. No true wall thickness could be ascertained and the entrance is not evident. The name is no longer known.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (S F S), 25 February 1975.
