"The remarkable terraced site on an eminence SE of the farmhouse of Kerrowmore".

This may be the traditional site of the house of "Black John of the Spears", close beside Tom-na-Cuairteig (D Campbell 1888) (NN 588 468). The traditional figure of "Black John" has been doubtfully identified with John of Lorne mentioned in connection with Glen Lyon in a charter of 1368.
A Stewart 1928
At NN 5892 4674, there are the remains of an unusual earthwork on top of a rocky knoll. It consists of two concentric terraces, the upper of which is 2.5m wide, enclosing the D-shaped summit which measures 24.0m NW-SE by 12.0m, and around which are traces of a very slight bank. The lower terrace is partially obscured on the W by a later field bank.
To the S and W of the knoll are the footings of seven depopulated buildings, the largest of which measures 13.0m by 6.0m internally. The name Tom na Cuairteig is not known locally and the association with "Black John" could not be confirmed.

This earthwork is as described in previous field report. It may well be a terraced motte as suggested by Talbot though the scarps and terraces are smaller than those generally met with on such sites.
