(NM 9169 3408) Standing Stone (NR) (Site of).

The stone that formerly stood within the area now occupied by Connel Station was presumably removed shortly before 1880 when the railway was being constructed. It is described as 'a large standing stone' having 'around it marks where others, well remembered, lately stood'. Nothing is known of the size or disposition of these other stones.

R A Smith 1875; RCAHMS 1975.

Site destroyed by the construction of a railway yard.

Visited by OS (JP) 2 December 1971.
