(NM 8014 2052) Standing Stones (NR)

There is a group of four standing stones situated in a pasture field west of Duachy farmhouse. Three are disposed in a straight line running NNW-SSE while the fourth, now reduced to a stump, stands apart 38 metres to the east.

The most northerly of the line of three measures 0.7 by 0.5 metres at the base and 2.8 metres in height, rising with a slight taper to an almost level top.

The centre stone, 2.7 and 2.1 metres from the north and south stones respectively, is now leaning towards the east at an angle of about 30. It measures 0.6 by 0.5m in girth and 1.9m in length, though a portion appears to have broken off the tip.

The south stone measures 0.7 by 0.6 metres at ground level and 2.2 metres in height. Like the north stone, its sides are smooth and its top is level.

Until recently, the isolated stone to the east stood erect, though tilted considerably to the west. In 1963 it was knocked down to prevent it from becoming a danger to livestock. The stump measures 0.8 by 0.5 metres and 0.3 metres in height and a fragment lies close beside it.

The main body of the stone, still in one piece, now lies 45 metres to the SSW at the edge of a small marshy hollow. This piece measures 0.7 by 0.5 metres in maximum girth and 2.4 metres in length. When in its original state, the stone would have stood to a height of about 2.5 metres.
