(NJ 9909 2431) Foveran Castle (NR) (site of)

OS 6" map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd ed., (1902)

There are no remains of the castle except the arch over a spring, which is supposed to have been at the foot of the northern exterior wall.

Name Book 1866.

There is no vestige remaining of the Castle of Foveran, nor of Turing's Tower which is still more ancient and which seems to have stood nearby.

New Statistical Accont (NSA) 1845; W F Scott 1895.

There are no visible remains of the castle or the tower.

Visited by OS (RD) 23 March 1964.

The site of Foveran Castle lies about 75m NW of Foveran House Hotel (NJ92SE 9); on the date of visit nothing of the castle nor of Turing's Tower, an allegedly more ancient structure, was visible.
