(NJ 8386 1626) Chapel Graveyard (NR):

St Giles's Chapel (NR) (Supposed site of)

OS 6" map (1928)

The Chapel Graveyard is a small burying-ground in Hatton of Fintray, on the south side of the road near Haughland. It was consecrated by Bishop Elphinstone in the 15th century, and from its name is supposed to have been the site of a chapel although no foundations have ever been found during grave-digging.

'Chappel-St Giles in Hatton, where the Abbot of Lindoris had formerly a summer seat' (Collins on the Shires of Aberdeen and Banff).

Name Book 1864

There is no trace of any chapel. The graveyard has been cleared of the old stones and extended, and is now the new parish burial ground.

Visited by OS (EGC) 1 November 1961.
