A very perfect artificial earthwork, the south ditch is quite perfect, but the north side is not quite so good.

Name Book 1868.

The probable site of the old house of Shethin is indicated by a homestead moat in the field across the road to the south of the present steading.

The site of a homestead moat situated in a cultivated field. The ditch on the N has been obliterated. The S ditch and parts of the E and W ditch are still visible, but have been greatly spread by ploughing and insufficient survives for accurate survey. The siting symbol shown on OS 25" map is centrally placed on the enclosed space which has been approximately 40.0m square.
