(NJ 7178 2400) St Mary's Well (NR)

A fine spring well of great antiquity.

Name Book 1867.

The well has been 'modernised' and the water is now contained in a vertical 'pipe' (1.0m deep and 0.6m diameter). The whole is surrounded by a concrete encasement (0.9m x 0.9m) almost level with the ground, which has a rectangular iron cover on top to allow access. Name still in local use.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (ISS) 11 July 1973.

This spring well was formerly associated with St Mary's Chapel (NJ72SW 6).
