OS 6" map, Banfsshire, 2nd ed., (1904)
'Picts Camp (supposed remains of)..Four small oval-shaped excavations surrounded by an embankment of earth.. they are much defaced by the plough and agricultural improvements. From their appearance and size they are supposed to be remains of dwellings.'
Name Book 1866.
No traces of any mounds or hut-circles were seen in arable ground in the area of the four sites noted above. At NJ 6845 4489 there are the mutilated remains of a small circular enclosure, about 13.0m in diameter, formed by a slight turf-bank about 3.0m wide and approx 0.5m average height. As the small enclosure at NJ 6846 4489 was previously published as 'Mound' on OS 25" mp it is probable that the other four sites are sites of similar features and not 'Mounds' as published. Revised at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (WDJ) 8 September 1964.
The enclosure described above, has since been completly ploughed out.
No trace of any of these features remains.
Visited by OS (AA) 19 January 1968.
