'Scheinakis Well', beside Meft (not located: Nether Meft: NJ 271 641), was supposed to be a healing well and is mentioned in 1597 in a witch-craft case of Elgin Kirk Session.

Mackintosh suggests it might be 'the well now filled up that was on the other (ie, probably west) side of the cottar houses on the hill leading to Meft farm.'

H B Mackintosh 1924.

The cottar houses referred to are Upper Meft Cottages at NJ 2698 6350. There is no local knowledge of the well.

Visited by OS (R L) 26 January 1972.
