(NH 8945 7983) Geanies Castle (Site of) (NAT)

OS 6" map, Ross-shire, 2nd ed., (1907)

No visible remains of the castle of the Barony of Geanies exist, but a tree still standing is said to have been within its precincts (Ordnance Survey Name Book [ONB] 1872).

Geanies Castle, when investigated by Davidson, was found to be quite unknown locally and the site indicated by OS was under wheat and no trace whatever was distinguishable (Davidson 1948).

OS Name Book 1872; J M Davidson 1948.

No trace of castle or tree in an arable field.

Visited by OS (I S S) 5 September 1972.
