(NH 6773 6650) Cairn (NR). (Site of).

OS 6" map, (1959)

When visited on 8th September, 1954, this site was under crop, but the farmer stated that his predecessor had removed the cairn, and that no trace of it remained.

The Name Book (1875) described it as a large cairn of stones which had never been opened, but which was traditionally associated with a battle fought in the neighbourhood.

Name Book 1875; A A Woodham 1956; Information from A A Woodham to OS.

There are now no surface remains of this cairn, situated in the middle of a pasture field on gently sloping ground.

Revised at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (R B) 13 January 1966.
