(NF 6447 6233) Cladh na Bleide (NR)

Burial Ground (Disused)

OS 6" map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1904).

Faint traces of an old burial ground, called Cladh na Bleide, can still be seen upon Ceann Ear. This has been almost certainly associated with a former chapel, but no tradition seems to remain, although a slight wall is visible at the west base of a sandhill. This was evidently the find-spot of a bronze Celtic ring-headed pin (E Beveridge 1911 and PSAS 1859), now in the NMAS. (S Grieg 1940) (FC 138)

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1859; E Beveridge 1911; S Grieg 1940.

No trace of this burial ground or of a chapel is to be seen.

Revised at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (W D J) 18 June 1965.
