ND26NW 10 c. 206 682

ND 204 682. Three cists, at least two of them long, were found during sand quarrying among the dunes in April 1961. The first cist contained a male skeleton extended N-S. Close by, the extended burial of a female and a quern were disturbed, and some time later another female skeleton was revealed. The contents of the first two cists were removed to Marischal College. (See also ND26NW 8).

R E MacCallum 1962.

Mr MacCallum (Castletown Primary Scool, Castletown) was not present when the cists were discovered, and cannot locate the findspots precisely. The find was made in April 1959 (information contained in letter from Prf R D Lockart, Marischal College, Aberdeen to OS, 1 May 1959). The only sandpit in the area is centred at ND 206 682, but it is disused and largely filled in. No recent finds are known to have been made.

Visited by OS (N K B) 13 July 1982.
