ND23SW 9 2067 3492 and 2071 3494
(ND 2067 3492; ND 2071 3494) Mounds (NR)
OS 6" map, (1959)
Two turf-covered cairns some 13.0m in diameter and 1.0m high, very badly mutilated and robbed.
Robbing from the S of the cairn at ND 2071 3494 has exposed three upright slabs in the centre, probably the remains of a chamber although in its present state the plan is not evident. No uprights can be seen in the cairn at ND 2067 3492, but its close proximity and similarity in dimensions to the other cairn make it likely that this also was chambered.
Surveyed at 1:2500.
Visited by OS (R L) 13 March 1968.
Scheduled with ND23NW 11, ND23NW 12, ND23NW 13, ND23NW 37 and ND23SW 6, ND23SW 21, ND23SW 22, ND23SW 24, ND23SW 25 as 'Forse House, settlement, field system, burnt mounds and cairns... an extensive area of remains, including those of deserted farmsteads ... together with associated cultivation remains of various dates, small cairns and burnt mounds.'
Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 30 January 2003.
