(NC 8984 6387) Cairn (NR)

OS 25"map, (1976)

At NC 8984 6387 is a cairn measuring about 26.0m in diameter, reduced by robbing to a heather-covered stony platform averaging 1.0m high. About 4.0m in from the N edge is an upright slab facing ENE-WSW and measuring 1.1m long by 0.3m thick which protrudes from the debris to a height of 0.7m. Its purpose is uncertain.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (A A) 1 November 1972.

This cairn is generally as described by OS field surveyor (A A). The slab is aligned roughly radial to the centre of the cairn. It is possibly part of an entrance passage, although there is no other evidence to suggest a chambered cairn.

Visited by OS (J B) 21 June 1977.

R J Mercer 1980.
