In a low-lying peat-covered area, inland from the old churchyard at Skaill, is a prominent crescentic burnt mound 2m high.

Visited October 1981.

RCAHMS 1946; RCAHMS 1984.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS 25 July 1970.

HY 5658 3293 Samples were collected from a series of burnt mounds on Eday in July 2000 as part of a broader investigation of luminescence dating of burnt mounds being conducted at the Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre, East Kilbride.

Stone samples were collected from the Scheduled Skaill burnt mound for luminescence dating. A 40cm2 area located on the southern side of the crescentic mound was deturfed for sampling, revealing a solidly packed stone layer beneath a topsoil/stone mixture. In addition, loose samples were collected from an exposure on the crest of the mound.
