(Area centred HY 273 165) Tumuli {NR}

(HY 2725 1650) Stone Cist found {NAT}

OS 25"map, (1880)

This is a group of at least fourteen mounds which vary between 16 1/2 and 35ft in diameter and from 1 to 4ft in height. Many of them appear to have been partially excavated and in two cases small cists can still be seen lying near the centre, but there are no records of the investigation.

Name Book 1880; OS 25"map, (1880); RCAHMS 1946.

The remains of fourteen barrows, in two distinct groups, generally as described by the RCAHMS, composed mainly of earth with some stones visible. The westerly group is situtated on the top of a prominent ridge at about 100ft OD; the easterly at the bottom of the same ridge at about 50ft OD. No trace was found of the cists and no recent finds have been reported.

Visited by OS (NKB), 20 May 1966.
