Two buildings which stand immediately NE of the Mount Stuart Visitor Centre were formerly part of ‘Scoulach’ farmsteading. They were not recorded in detail on the date of visit.

A settlement annotated ‘Scoulack’ is depicted here on Roy’s Military Map (1747-55), and five buildings and two enclosures are shown at this position on a more detailed 18th century estate map and labelled ‘Scoulach Farm’ (Foulis 1758-9, RHP 14107). Three roofed buildings are depicted here on the 1st edition of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map (Buteshire 1869, Sheet CCIV), but the two buildings that still stand immediately NE of the visitor centre are first depicted on the 2nd edition of the same map, in a group of seven (1897, Sheet CCIV.SE).

Visited by RCAHMS (AGCH, GFG) 19 May 2009.
