This enclosed settlement of probable Iron Age date, which has been recorded as cropmarking on oblique aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1992), is situated on gently sloping ground on the NE flank of Cairn Connell Hill. Subquare on plan but with a markedly curved SW corner, it measures about 33m from NW to SE by 34m transversely within a ditch about 4-5m broad that is broken by an entrance gap on the NE. A roundhouse within the interior is visible as a subcircular dark mark measuring about 11m in diameter. Amorphous areas of darker crop may represent additional occupation remains.
A second enclosed settlement (NX06NW 41) lies immediately to the S, whilst an unenclosed settlement of roundhouses and a possible souterrain (NX06NW 43), also recorded as cropmarking, lies directly SE.
