Doune Castle NN 728 010 NN70SW 1

This courtyard castle, which occupies a bluff between the River Teith and the Ardoch Burn, was built in the late 14th century. The approach to the castle from the S is protected by two broad ditches and that from the N by a single ditch. It is not clear whether these ditches are earlier than or contemporary with the existing building.
