An early medieval silver chain was discovered by quarry workers at Traprain Law in January 1938 ‘near the quarry, between the 600 and 700 ft contours’ (Edwards 1939, 326) and acquired for the National Museum in March 1939 (PSAS 73, 333; NMS Accession Number X.FC 248). The find spot of the chain is annotated on a plan of Traprain Law dated to c.1923 (HES Archive: DP248534) at NT c. 5834 7487, in an area now completely quarried away.
