Funded by the National Trust for Scotland and the BBC, the Bannockburn Big Dig is a partnership between GUARD Archaeologyand the Centre for Battlefield Archaeology, established to reveal the true location of the Battle of Bannockburn.
The project was structured to provide an opportunity for community involvement throughout. Combining 'Big Dig' phases of work with a number of set piece investigations that combined geophysical surveys, metal detector surveys and archaeological test pits and trenches, the Bannockburn 700 project enabled over 700 volunteers the chance to explore the rich history of the Stirling area and identify archaeological remains of the battlefield.
