Scope and Content Tummel/Garry Project, contract 14, Clunie Power Station, view looking north, 9 March 1949 The 61.2 megawatt Clunie Power Station receives water via a tunnel from Loch Tummel. It was commissioned in 1950, and has an annual output of 165 million units of power. The power station is built at the point where the rivers Tummel and Garry meet, before the waters flow into the artificial Loch Faskally. The construction of the Clunie Power Station shown here is at a fairly advanced stage. The steel frame of the station is virtually complete, as are the three high-pressure pipes to the turbines. The river in the background is the Tummel, which will receive the waste water from the station. The main parts of the Tummel scheme were the building of Clunie Dam at the east end of Loch Tummel, the construction of this large power station at Clunie, and the building of a combined power station and dam at Pitlochry. This is one of eight large schemes built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
