Scope and Content Tummel/Garry Project, [contract 16], Clunie Dam, view from downstream, no date Clunie Dam is situated at the eastern end of the Tummel Valley hydro-electric scheme, which covers a total area of 1839 square km. It measures 21m high and 115m long. Its construction raised the height of the waters of Loch Tummel by about 5m. This view shows the Clunie Dam as completed, with its fish ladder to its left. The dam raises the level of Loch Tummel, to provide water for the Clunie Power Station. Note the care taken to design a structure which is in keeping with its surroundings, an important part of North of Scotland Hydro Board policy. The main parts of the Tummel scheme were the building of the Clunie Dam at the east end of Loch Tummel, the construction of a large power station at Clunie, and the building of a combined power station and dam at Pitlochry. The Tummel scheme was one of eight large schemes built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board during the 1940s to 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
