Scope and Content Tummel/Garry Project, contract 14, Clunie Power Station, general view of interior of power station, 9 March 1949 Clunie Power Station was completed by 1950, and has an installed capacity of 61.2 megawatts, and an average output of 165 million units of power. Water from Loch Tummel is diverted by tunnel to power its turbines and generators. An arch by the picnic area adjacent to the station is built to the exact dimensions of this tunnel as an interesting feature for visitors. This view shows the interior of the Clunie Power Station, with the spiral steel casing of one of the turbines in the middle. The water will enter the turbine from the left. The steel work supports the rails for an overhead crane, used for installing and maintaining the turbines and generators. The main parts of the scheme were the building of Clunie Dam at the east end of Loch Tummel, the construction of the power station at Clunie, and the building of a combined power station and dam at Pitlochry. This is one of eight large schemes built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
