Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 10, Fasnakyle Generating Station, turbine house interior, 11 December 1950 The Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric project is part of the Affric/Beauly Hydro-Electric Scheme built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board to the north west of Inverness. It raised the level of lochs Mullardoch and Benevean (Beinn a'Mheadhoin). There are power stations at Mullardoch and Fasnakyle. This view shows the interior of the Fasnakyle Generating Station, with the three turbines and their alternators being erected. In the foreground is the steel spiral casing of no 1 turbine, in the middle the concreted plinth of no 2 turbo-generator, and in the background the stator of no 3 is in position. The Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project was the first part of the Affric/Beauly scheme to be built. Great care was taken in its design and construction to minimise the impact on the fine scenery in the area. The Affric/Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
