Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 10, Fasnakyle Generating Station, excavation for north half of station building, and two pipe tunnels, 1 July 1948 Fasnakyle Power Station has an installed capacity of 69 megawatts, and produces an average of 253 million units of electricity per year. Water to power its turbines is taken from Loch Benevean via a tunnel over 5km in length. Electricity produced by Fasnakyle is fed into the areas around Beauly or Fort Augustus. Shown is the site of part of Fasnakyle Power Station being levelled by tipping rock. In the background are the portals of two of the three tunnels which will take water to the station turbines. The sheds to the left house compressors for rock drills, and a fan for ventilating the tunnel on the left. Fasnakyle Power Station is a component of the Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project which was the first part of the Affric/Beauly scheme to be built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board. The Affric/ Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to the 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
