Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 9, Mullardoch Dam, general view from the east, 5 may 1952 Mullardoch Dam, the largest of the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board's dams, was completed by 1952. It measures 727m long and is 48m high. The main contractors were John Cochrane & Sons Ltd. This view shows the south wing of the Mullardoch dam nearly complete. The projecting section on the right is on the central island, and on the extreme right is part of the north wing. The left-hand section of the south wing is complete. Mullardoch dam is a component of the Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project which was the first part of the Affric/Beauly scheme to be built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board. Great care was taken in its design and construction to minimise the impact on the fine scenery in the area. The Affric/Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to the 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
