Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 9, subsidiary generating station The small power station at Mullardoch is situated underground close to the Mullardoch Dam, and was first commissioned in 1955. It produces eight million units of electricity per year. This contrasts sharply with the large power station at Fasnakyle (commissioned 1951), which uses the some of the same flow of water further down hill to generate 223 million units of power annually. This view shows the main Mullardoch Tunnel, linking lochs Mullardoch and Benevean, on the left, and the discharge tunnel from the subsidiary (Mullardoch) generating station on the right. The photograph was taken with the aid of flash powder. The Mullardoch Tunnel is a component of the Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project which was the first part of the Affric/Beauly scheme to be built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board. The Affric/Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to the 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
