Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 9, Cozac Quarry, general view of working face, 2 March 1950 Mullardoch Dam at Loch Mullardoch on the River Cannich was completed in 1952 as part of the Affric/Beauly hydro-electric scheme. Other major works as part of this project include a tunnel to send water from Loch Mullardoch to Loch Benevean (Beinn a'Mheadhoin), a small dam at Loch Benavean, and a further tunnel to Fasnakyle Power Station. This view shows the working face of the quarry opened to provide stone (aggregate) for building the Mullardoch Dam and the associated tunnel to Loch Benevean. The mechanical shovel and man in the centre give some idea of the scale of the quarry, and of the volume of concrete in the works. The Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project was the first part of the Affric/ Beauly scheme to be built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board. Great care was taken in its design and construction to minimise the impact on the fine scenery in the area. The Affric/ Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to the 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
